Quality Furniture, Honestly Made

Hi I'm Paul Clauss, and together with my fiancée, Callie and our cat Mandu we are Clauss Woodworks. We make the Atalaya Bed and custom furniture pieces by hand in our home/workshop located in Santa Fe, New Mexico. We started Clauss Woodworks with the goal of doing something radically authentic. Furniture built to last a lifetime, made by a neighbor, constructed from native timber.

Honestly Made

Exclusively Native Timber

All our furniture is made from domestic American hardwood sourced from responsibly managed timberland. This self imposed restriction ensures that we are not contributing to the environmental exploitation and unfair labor practices that can in some cases be found in the supply chains of exotic timber.

Craftsman's Warranty

Every product made at Clauss Woodworks is meant to last generations when properly cared for. We stand by our work and will repair or replace any piece that is damaged or broken during normal use.

Non-toxic Finish

Our intention is to build furniture that lives in your home for a lifetime. That means you should be comfortable sharing your life with everything material we use. Our hard wax finish is derived from natural oils and waxes and is certified to contain 0 volatile organic compounds (harmful compounds that are emitted by many commonly used factory finishes)

The Atalaya Bed

The design for the Atalya bed was born from a dissatisfaction with modern factory made furniture. Callie and I moved quite a bit during our twenties. Whether we moved across town or across the world, a few key items of furniture always came with us to make the new place feel like home. Over the course of more than a dozen moves, certain pieces, our bed included, began to break down. Ultimately we ended up purchasing the same bed 3 times. From this experience a clear vision emerged: furniture built to last a lifetime and thoughtfully designed for modern life.

Traditional Joinery

Assembled using traditional Japanese joinery, the Atalaya frame uses keyed sliding dovetails, castle joints, and splined "U" joints to come together in minutes without the use of any hardware.
