Custom Furniture, Built in Santa Fe, NM
On occasion, clients commission custom one-of-one pieces. Each design is crafted in collaboration with the client and informed by the space the piece is intended for. We absolutely love creating these beautiful and unique objects. While every piece of furniture made at Clauss Woodworks is an opportunity to bring beauty into the lives of our patrons, that is even more true for these singular pieces.
Cherry Consul Table
Designed to slightly wrap around a seating area in the clients home, this cherry consul table features 9 hand carved joints, subtly tapered feet, and figured cherry boards. The table is intended to be a marriage of modern minimalist form and American mid century studio furniture aesthetic.
Old is New Coffee Table
Made from white oak reclaimed from church pews, the Old is New Coffee Table merges the traditional trestle form, minimalist aesthetics, and the subtle organic curves of Santa Fe's famous architecture. Built using Clauss Woodwork's own variations on customary Japanese "knockdown" joints and finished with a traditional Danish soap finish. This sturdy but airy table can be quickly disassembled and moved between the studio and garden as needed. The original dedication plaque from the pews has been saved and mounted to the bottom of the table top as a reminder that life does not always take us where we expect.
The Cherry Lovers
Inspired by 20th century American studio furniture and featuring hand carved joints, the Cherry Lovers night stands seek to marry mid century American aesthetic with contemporary minimalist forms. The nightstands are made of solid American cherry with ash drawer fronts and maple draw boxes. Much like the couple who commissioned them, each nightstand contains subtle but complimentary differences. This slight asymmetry in design brings the function of each nightstand more in line with usage and desires of each partner.
