Testimonials

We’ve had the bed for about a year and we absolutely love it.

We were able to put it together easily, the craftsmanship is clearly top notch. It’s held up flawlessly for the last year, I expect it’ll last forever. We particularly love the quality of the wood and how sturdy everything feels.

I received one of these bed frames as a gift last summer and recommend them to everyone I know!! They’re combining accessible assembly that a couple of 20 year olds can easily accomplish with a really classy, clean, and earthy design. I can’t describe how much changing my bed frame to a Clauss Woodworking one elevated my bedroom! Bonus: no squeaky creaky bed noises!!

— Mary C

This is the perfect bed! The wood looks fantastic and very high quality. It was also incredibly easy to put together. Highly recommend!

— Roxanne A

So so happy with my bed. Every time I look at it, it makes me smile a little to see such a beautiful, well-made thing, and know that I’ll have it a very long time.

Honestly Made

Exclusively Native Timber

All our furniture is made from domestic American hardwood sourced from responsibly managed timberland. This self-imposed restriction ensures that we are not contributing to environmental exploitation and unfair labor practices that can in some cases be found in the supply chains of exotic timber.

Craftsman's Warranty

Every product made at Clauss Woodworks is meant to last generations when properly maintained. We stand by our work and will repair or replace any piece that is damaged or broken during normal use.

Non-toxic Finish

Our intention is to build furniture that lives in your home for a lifetime. That means you should be comfortable sharing your life with every material we use. Our hard wax finish is derived from natural oils and waxes and is certified to contain 0 volatile organic compounds (harmful compounds that are emitted by many commonly used factory finishes).

Traditional Joinery

Assembled using traditional Japanese joinery, the Atalaya frame uses keyed sliding dovetails, castle joints, and splined "U" joints to come together in minutes without the use of any tools.

FAQs

Can I get an Atalaya Bed in a custom finish, color, or material?

Absolutely, one of the great benefits of small batch production is that we can make exactly what you would like. Reach out through our contact form with what you are looking for and we'll get back to you with a quote.

Do I need a box spring?

While you can use a box spring with the Atalaya bed it is not designed for one and we recommend you do not use one. The bed's padded slats provide the needed support and airflow.

Is the Atalaya Bed strong?

Oak is one of the hardest of the hard woods. The bed is very strong and can handle over 1500 lbs.

How many boxes does the Atalaya Bed ship in and how heavy are they?

The Atalaya Bed ships in 3-4 boxes all under 50 lbs.

What color is the Atalaya Bed?

The Atalaya bed is available in 2 finishes - Timber which offers a warm "close to the wood" natural oak color and Foxtail which offers a richer darker look. As wood is a naturally occurring material no two bed frames will be exactly alike. There will be slight variations in color and grain. These subtle variations tell the stories of the lives of trees before they came to our shop. Lives that live on in your home.

What's with the mallet?

Each Atalaya bed comes with a set of four dovetail keys and a mallet. The mallet is inteded to be used to tap the dovetail keys into their slots and secure the headboards. Strikes with the mallet should be firm but not violent. Each strike should result in only a small movement of the keys

Should the dovetail keys go all the way into the joint?

No, while the keys may go all the way to the end of the track they do not need to and should not be forced to the end of the track. Once the keys are visible on the far side of the post and the backboards have no movement in them you should stop striking the keys.

How does the Atalaya compare to other premium platform beds?

The Atalaya is made from higher quality materials and designed for longevity to a greater degree then most platform beds on the market learn more
